FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

In Queensland it depends where you live. If you are in a cyclonic area any exterior structure requires a building approval. In other parts of Queensland  a deck (without a roof) can fall under the self assessable category if:

  • It is a plan area of less that 10 metres square
  • It is less than 2.4 metres high and the floor height from ground level is less than 1 metre
  • Is not longer that 5 metres on any side

It is best to check with us or your local authority if you are unsure. Simply send your plans to us and we can let you know.

Send us your plans and we can provide the costs for the building certification assessment and inspections. Once the initial assessment is complete we will be able to advise of any additional planning applications and costs that may be required.

The general rule is 1.5m from side and rear boundaries however there can be other planning regulations impacting your location. You should check with your local council before you start building works. Simply send us your plans and we can advise of costs and requirements.

The simplest way to make sure your building work meets the standards is to use a QBCC licensed builder. You will require engineered plans to obtain a building approval and the building certifier will check the final structure is built to these plans.
