Why build a Livable home?
A livable home is designed and built to meet the changing needs of occupants across their lifetime. Livable homes include key easy living features that make them easier and safer to use for all occupants including: people with disability, ageing Australians, people with temporary injuries, and families with young children. A Livable House is a home for life.
A livable housing report is an assessment of your home against the Livable Housing Associations Guidelines. Adherence to the guidelines means that the house is easier to access and live in and will be cost effective to adapt to future circumstances.
The Livable Housing Design Guidelines provide best practice to creating adaptable homes. Some of these guidelines have been adopted in Queensland as part of the National Construction Code (NCC).
In Queensland on 1 October,2023 any new house designed needs to meet the needs of community to cater for Australians of all abilities. There are a number of design features that now need to be included in any new home.
There are requirements within the National Construction Code (NCC) for Livable Housing and accessibility. We will assess against these criteria as part of your building approval. A full livable housing assessment is only required on certain constructions but a full assessment of your construction plans will ensure your design will be accessible to everyone and are constructing an easily modifiable house.
